Where is the BEEF!

Ok, here is my beef for today. A little over a week ago I had a falling out with a member or two of my family and the one thing that is eating at me is this whole idea that because I am a single working mother, I must not be capable of being able to research or even have a mind of my own. And that my mother tells me how to live and how to think.....that is so far from the truth. I love my mother and luckily we share pretty much the same values and so on......but I don't think it is fair to compare what life was like back in the 70's and 80's to today. We have what is called the internet and I have a wealth of information at my finger tips. I also believe that my intelligence has been greatly insulted. I have felt this way before but this was just pure and blatant. Ok, sorry for the downer. Trying to deal with yet another disappointment in life......i'll get over it soon enough. Anyway, I went up to DC this weekend for a class. It is unbelievable that a group of us have to travel to take a class that should be held right here in town. Fortunately the professor is AWESOME and will make up for the horrible tech leadership class I had to take thing summer. That class was disturbing to say the least. Mariah is doing great in school with the exception of not being able to keep her hands to herself. We are working on that......more later.

Long Weekend

It is going to be a very long weekend. I start my class this weekend in Northern VA. It is too bad that a group of us have to drive all the way to Falls Church, VA just to be able to take a class required for endorsement. UVA canceled the class on grounds. I am bummed mainly because it will suck up 4 weekends and the cost of gas and hotel will mean big costs in addition to the tuition. Blech. Anyway, at least it is just 4 weekends and I don't have to worry too much about childcare.

Mariah has had a busy week. We had her open house on Tuesday and her class seems like it is a blast. She did have a "yellow" card by her name for discipline so misses out on the treasure box this week. She also went to the apple orchard at Graves Mountain this week and came home with a BIG bag of apples. Time for a little apple pie.

The campaign: I am so excited that we will be out of school on election day. We have our conferences in the evening so now I can work the polls that day. I am going to be a nervous wreck that Tues. Talk about the longest day EVER. Anyway, I thought Obama did an outstanding job at the 9/11 forum last night. I look forward to seeing him on SNL Sat. THat should take the cake. Well, that is all for now.....

Just a brief update today....

Well, today has been rough. Mariah and I are both suffering from cabin fever. We stayed in most of the day because of TS Hanna. It turned out to be uneventful and we finally went to the mall to use our pretzel coupons. I also picked up a big fat box of raspberries and blueberries....that should cancel out the pretzel dog we ate LOL! Anyway, Mariah and I will be spending a better part of the day tomorrow making "Barack - O late" chip cookies for the opening of the Obama office on UVA's campus. I just have to try REALLY hard not to eat any of them prior to delivery.....that is if I don't get too EMOTIONAL while cooking them for an empty suit....I must be a woman with lots of hormones or something. I may just totally change my mind and go for Palin....I mean she is a woman and I am a woman so I guess that I should vote for her....or NOT.....wait...i'm getting off track here....sorry I am being sarcastic. Back to the daily rant.....Brody was able to play with his sister today. Kristen brought Maddie over to play and now he is sleeping like a baby....have I mentioned that Brody now has a middle name......Brody Hussein Davis......named after Prince Hussein ofcourse. :-) JK...... well it is Hussein.....I'm actually used to calling him Brody Hussein when chasing him around the house.....

It has been awhile...so sorry

It has been a crazy few weeks! Mariah Jane and I transitioned into new schools. She has started kindergarten at Cale Elementary and I started a new year at Jack Jouett Middle School. Luckily everything is going very well......with an occasional blip here and there. Prior to school starting we were able to visit Williamsburg and Busch Gardens with Grandpa and Grandma Barbara. Busch Gardens is a beautiful park. I will definitely be going back soon. Once we returned Grandma came to help out with child care while I had to start back to work. It was SOOO nice having her here to help out. I had no idea what it felt like not to be a single mom. She needs to come visit more often...... Being able to come home and relax was so nice. I must say I was pretty grumpy for a few days after she left. I am aware of how lucky that I am having the sweetest little girl who is very low maintenance.

Campaign news! Mariah and took some big snack size sacks of potato chips to the Obama office on the downtown mall. This town is covered in Obama signs and stickers. The office is also looking more and more ready. The campaign was smart to place one of the offices on the downtown mall. They are also opening a new office near UVA's campus. Uh and WHERE is the McCain camp????? LOL! I've tried to keep an open mind to both conventions but I have to say I am embarassed by the news these days. A friend of mine who is a staunch republican told me that she saw Obama's speech and she is now on the fence. The news of the short vetting process of Palin has disturbed many. Anyway, enough politics for now. Enjoy the pictures.....
